Ketchum, Idaho

Summer and Fall 2018 was a busy travel time for us. We left Sacramento on June 5 and ended up in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on November 1st.  We took 22 weeks and covered over 3000 miles to get from California to South Carolina, meandering across the country and making stops at National Parks, visiting with friends, taking one last trip into New York City, a jaunt into Ontario, Canada, and an underground concert in the caverns in Pelham, Tennessee. We made it to another year of Summerfest, the vegan conference held in Johnstown, Pennsylvania every July.. We caught a couple more baseball games, visited the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt, spent time in the mountains, on the coast, on rivers, and in the woods. This journey will be the subject of the next few dozen blog posts, but for now I will begin at the beginning, with our visit to Ketchum, Idaho.

Nestled in the heart of Sun Valley beneath Bald Mountain, this area is known for its world-famous skiing (Winter Olympics held here in 1932 and 1984), and part time home to Ernest Hemingway (who wrote here, and ultimately died here). Tourists come from around the world to enjoy hiking, trail riding, art galleries, outdoor water activities and more. During our four days in this picturesque town we played a round of golf, rode on the scenic bike trail, and got a little hiking in. I was captivated by the natural beauty, the picture perfect weather, and gorgeous scenery. Not a bad start to our 2018 mega summer road trip!
